For Immediate Release:
Modern Masks At Java Passage Cafe' Photo: Untitled by Meagan Cherveny
Metal sculpture by seven students will be on display through Sunday, February 4th, 2007 at Java Passage Cafe' in Historic SouthEnd. The students gathered last weekend at Art In The Dairy, bringing their vast and various artistic talents to life in 19 gage steel. Metal Sculptor Bill Hickman expertly guided his class through the entire process: from cutting, to welding, then painting of their metal masks. Often, there were seven hammers, or seven torches going at the same time. The result is a modern take on the ancient art of masks. A reception will be held on Friday, February 2nd, from 6-9pm, during Historic SouthEnd's Gallery Crawl at Java Passage Cafe' behind EQ3 on South Boulevard for Instructor Bill Hickman of Raleigh, and his students, Meagan Cherveny and Doug Day of Charlotte, Stan Harmon of New Bern, Randy Cox of Rowan Community College, Karen Campbell of Midland, Lynn Griffis of Lexington, KY, and Greg Rawls of Charleston, SC.
