Nationally recognized metal artist
Bill Hickman will return to Art In The Dairy in
January, 2008, to teach an
intense three day class in Welded Steel Sculpture on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, January 25th-27th.
Bill creates masks, animals, and people from 19 gauge cold rolled
sheet steel. His approach is somewhat crude. Metal pieces are torch
cut and shaped by hammering, bending, and rolling. These parts are
then gas welded together into forms, each with unique
characteristics, resulting from the heat and hand work. Bill often
uses scrap objects such as saw blades, barbed wire, and nails to
further detail his work.
In this three day
class, students will gain vast experience using acetylene and plasma
torches. Tuition for this
rare opportunity is $475.00, which includes all materials and
tools. Space is limited, so register ASAP through
Art In the Dairy's Rose Hawley at 704-287-4572, or
by email to
rose@artinthedairy.com
"We are thrilled to have Bill Hickman come back," says Rose Hawley.
"What started out as a mask making class has blown into full
sculpture!"
Rose Hawley opened
Art In The Dairy
in 2006 to further the education and production of fine art glass in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Black's Dairy
opened on the outskirts of Charlotte in 1940 to produce and deliver
quality dairy products. Today, it serves as the home for fine art
glass, and glass related art.
